That doesn’t look like a Shelby product, too me. It looks like a good-old-fashioned ‘66 Coupe. Probably has a 289 in it.

You’re probably correct. Creator of this probably took a page from the ‘67 GTA.

yeah, I also felt like it was a clone. These are the only two photo’s I got before my phone died.. But the front has what looked like a “Elanor” front end from the gone in 60 seconds remake and had a cobra badge on the back. you know the snake with cobra in the round lock cover vs just the mustang.

‘twas a joke. As in aftermarket parts to make it look like something it isn’t, but I have no idea whether it really is a really real GT 350 or not.

For some reason... The e38 7 series is sometimes referred to as 740iA for automatic. It’s not badged as such, but I see/read it everywhere.
There was a 740iL and 50iL, but those were at least differentiated by having a longer wheelbase.
Every e38 7 series came with an automatic.

I mean even if it was real, this 350 A doesn’t seem to be documented any place I can find it. And if it was a clone, why the hell put something there that wasn’t on the original to make it even more obvious it’s a clone?! it’s driving me batty

“A” isn’t in the Shelby lexicon, to my knowledge.
This is a poor clone.

I see that with with the E39 as well. In some parts catalogues, the 530i with an auto is called a 530iA, where the manual variant is just 530i.

I also think, at some point the front fenders where widened to also eliminate the crease above the wheel well but my google fu is failing me at finding proof.

I agree that it’s a clone. I have seen the letter A used before to signify an automatic. Maybe that’s whay they were going for?

Yep. Fun fact, by the way. That’s not a lock cover. The trunk lock on these cars sits above what you’re describing. What you’re describing is actually the gas cap:

Did it have an automatic transmission? I want to say that the A stands for automatic.

Google tells me that the GT350 did come with an optional automatic transmission beginning in 1966. It doesn’t say anything about the “A” designation, but I would bet that’s where it came from.

See my other posts. If it were a clone, why add some detail that obviously makes it stand out from the real thing? I believe that the “A” designations were given to the 1966 GT350s with automatic transmissions. This, of course, was a time in which having an automatic was still a luxury, and you wanted to flaunt that.

Well it apparently wasn’t obvious enough since it fooled you...
